1.        If you could have any record in the world, what would it be and why?

I asked this of everyone on this website, and I didn't know how hard it was to answer. I suppose I would like a copy of Jackie Brenston's Rocket 88 on 45 (1955 Chess Records), (it's really Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm) because it's so rare and it started a whole new movement.

 2.       Who are your biggest influences in DJ’ing and why?

My influences are varied, I still look back to the guys that I grew up with, Chris Spring, Ian Jackson, Dom etc. Lee Miller always makes me smile, Jodie makes me dance and Mocky makes me sing (sorry for that) I also had had the privilege to listen to New York based Michael Robinson on a few occasions, he makes every hair on my body stand on end, his rare funky soul and real garage sets have no words to describe how magical they are. His play lists have become the source of many DJ's new tunes, personally I think he's the best DJ in the world, catering for both the dance floor and the anoraks. I couldn't finish this section without mentioning DJ Henry from Milan, the finest party DJ there is, you really can't have a better man if you want to have a good time, he has me dancing to records I would normally walk away from, no other DJ has that effect for me. I would like to mention so many other DJ's that I have listened to, but I have tried to keep this simple, so if you are not on this short list don't be offended.

3.        If you could DJ another style, other than that you are known for, what would it be?

In my time I have worked as a professional DJ playing Acid Jazz and dub-beats, I also love Latin Boogaloo, so I suppose it would be a mix of those .. Music is part of my blood, without it I'm not sure what I would do

4.        Why did you become a DJ, rather than a collector?

Originally back in the 80's, no one wanted to be a DJ and I was pushed into it because I had a large collection. Through the 90's I was getting paid lots of money to DJ in house clubs, so I have always been a DJ of some kind. I think some collectors forget the reason they buy music! records have to be played, not put in glass cases, hidden away from all light, and never heard. Music is for listening to and what better way to hear the music, a dark all-nighter in a basement club in a foreign land, where everyone there is dancing to the same beat as you - class !

5.        What’s the “best” record you own?

Best is subjective, it's whatever turns me on ... I could mention some obscenely rare and expensive records, but they are not the "best" records. I go for dance floor reaction, so it would have to be either "Chicken and Rice - Jack Constanzo" or "No more - The Royals". It was a few weeks ago when I wrote the section above, and now I have changed my mind (again!), the best record today is the tune on the DJ introduction page, cheap as hell, but everyone that has heard it loves it, a cross between Doowop and soul and yes it's a black artist .......

6.        Where is your favourite place to eat, and the best meal they serve?

Bea's mum's house, a mix of Catalan and Andalucían local styles, she is an amazing cook and I love everything, but if I have to pick one favourite it would be Canelones (Catalan cannelloni)

7.        Do you collect anything else?

I try not to, I have enough trouble storing records, but shirts are my other weakness, I have over 150. I also like collecting friends ... you can't have enough friends !

8.        Favourite drink?

Cava/Champagne, Gin and Tonic, Rum and coke (the Catalan way with real lemon juice), Fanta Diet Lemon

9.        Most embarrassing / funny moment whilst DJ’ing

Usually the pictures of me after the night is over, then I see what a fool I've been whilst behind the decks - I dance and sing every time I DJ ... and I once managed to kick the main power breaker in a nightclub with over 1000 people in it, plunging the entire club into darkness. When I got the power back on, I restarted the set with "the sounds of blackness" ...

 10.     Favourite movie?

Gangster No1 and Roman Holiday (can't decide which), I should also mention the "Carry on" films, every time there's on TV I'll be watching it, even if I have seen it twenty times before.

Biography

Favourite Styles - 50's & 60's R&B, Early Black Soul, Girl Groups & Latin Boogaloo

Favourite Artist - The Shirelles

Favourite DJ - So many really for different styles, i suppose the major influences for me have been Lee Miller & Gav Needham. I also thoroughly enjoy Henry from Milan, even though he plays beat and blue eyed, he knows how to energise a club. My first real influences were Ian Jackson (London) and Chris Spring (Newcastle), two mod DJ's from the early part on the 80's.

Favourite Places to DJ - The Boiler Club, Barcelona (ES), Lowton Civic Hall (UK), "All Saints" - Laverone, (IT), "Blue Bar" - Rome (IT), "Buzz with the fuzz" - Milan (IT), Hideaway Club (UK) , The Underground Mod Rallies (UK-RIP) and FLIPside (obviously).

When & where first DJ'd - 1984 for the mod society i was a member of, The All Our Yesterdays AMS, in a small club on a Sunday called Adam & Eves in Stockton (UK) - I remember it was a mostly Latin Soul set.

Ambitions to fulfil as a DJ - There's still a couple of venues i've not played at, so let's see what happens in the next year or two.
